-1 lb ziti pasta
-TNH piqual olive oil
-1 large yellow onion, finely chopped
-2 garlic cloves, chopped
-1 1/2 lb bulk Italian sausage
-2 14 oz cans diced tomatoes
-20 or more TNH basil leaves, torn and divided
-1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
-8 oz fresh TNH mozzarella cheese, sliced
-salt and pepper to taste
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Add a pinch of salt and a drizzle of TNH olive oil to boiling water. Cook the ziti pasta until al dente. Drain the pasta and set aside.
In a large skillet, heat 1 tbsp olive oil and saute the onions until translucent and slightly golden in color. Next, add the garlic and sausage and cook on medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until the sausage is fully browned. Once the sausage is cooked, add the canned tomatoes and half the basil leaves. Reduce the heat to medium and cook for 10 minutes or until the sauce thickens.
Combine the pasta and 1/2 of the grated parmesan cheese with half the sauce in a baking dish. Top the pasta mixture with the remaining sauce and mozzarella slices. Bake for 20-25 minutes at 350 degrees. Top with remaining basil leaves and serve!
